This weekend is the The 5th Gathering at the Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, Maryland just outside of DC going north for less than 1/2 an hour. The Gathering is billed as a weekend of slalom skateboard racing and fun. The event runs Saturday and Sunday May 7 & 8, 2005.
I was introduced to slalom skateboarding at the 1st Gathering and went on to learn how to race cones (easier said than done) and actually got somewhat good at it. But in time others got better than me. So I go hang out at the Gathering to just cruise the hills on a longboard and chill with skateboarders that do more than just kickflip or ride roundwall.
I normally set a longboard slalom course with a timer and all. The cones are set wide enough that you get that snowboard back and forth feel on my course.
It would be killer if some of the freeborders from within a few hours of Washington DC show up to demonstrate how to freebord. The DC Slalom Crew are open minded enough that a few might get into freebording. It would also be interesting to see how easy it would be to negotiate the cones on a freebord.
