Tetris Run Start to Finish
March 25th, 2010 by FreebordNorthcote Nabs a Cover Story
March 24th, 2010 by FreebordA little delayed but never too late to preesh the Melbourne crew for this feature article in their local Aussie newspaper.
All Aboard for Northcote Teens
SNOWBOARDING is a popular winter sport in Victoria but those doing its warm weather equivalent can just about be counted on the fingers of one hand.
Freebording (sic) is snowboarding without the snow, done on a specialised six-wheeled skateboard.
Northcote teenagers Mattheus, 15, Nick, 15, and Jesse, 19, are hoping to put the sport on the map with some media attention they say has been sadly lacking.
“There’s only about eight people doing it in Victoria because not many people know about it,” Nick said.
“It’s so much fun because you can do slides and spins you can’t do on any other boards.”
The central wheels allow the rider to turn freely in all directions and the boards are designed to travel at speed down paved hills.
Nick said Northcote’s hills made it perfect territory for freebording and he hoped others would take up the sport.
Jesse said freebording allowed him to express himself.
“You get a great adrenalin rush when you’re going downhill fast,” he said.
“The fastest I’ve gone is 65kmh down Mt Dandenong.”
Nice job guys. One question remains: where was Meanis?

Freebord Tetris on Discovery Channel Canada
March 17th, 2010 by Freebord
Our neighbors in the Great White North appreciate something good when they see it. As a follow up to the Discovery Channel USA feature they did on Freebord back in 2006, the producers of Daily Planet decided to tell the behind the scenes story of the Tetris shoot.
With cameos from legends such as Jake Goedl, Kevin Torok and Banzai’s Flannel, this clip is a must see. Check it out here: http://watch.discoverychannel.ca/#clip277386
If you make it past our segment, you’re in for a treat with some other “wild!” sports clearly worthy of comparison with Freebord. Hang glide snowboarding and underwater hockey? Apparently the Canuks weren’t satisfied with the ice, street or field versions of their national sport… or maybe they were just looking for another use for snorkels.
